It’s hard to believe that it’s midsummer – given all the cool rainy days we’ve had. But there are indications – fireflies, sleeping porches being the best bet for a good night sleep, and the green buds of tomatoes appearing. Spider webs in the field are true signs of summer for me as well – their elegant strands wet with dew seem like gifts as they catch the first rays of the sun. This past solstice I was treated to a dewy sunrise – that reminded me of the winter solstice but with misty, humid dew instead of frost. The photos make this clearer. I admire the industry of the spiders and the elegance of their ambitious design, spanning blades of grass far from each other. Enmasse the webs are an astonishing installation creating countless planes and frames in and of the landscape.
