Next week, I’ll begin work on my installation at the Meekins Library in Williamsburg, MA…After gathering the materials and working out details we’re close!
My collaborator Nikki Gardner and I are hosting an showing of her film chronicling a year of the mill river at the site of an installation of mine. With the film, you’ll be able to experience the four seasons, the ecology and the effects of entropy on the woven fences I created.
The film will be shown in a weir ( a woven branch enclosure ) on the lawn of the Meekins Library in Williamsburg, MA – nearest to the Mill river.
Here’s the idea….
The Flotsam Weirs 2 installation explores overlaid ecological communities and site/non-site dynamics. It integrates film projection from the original weirs site on Mill street that was inspired by social geography and ecology, material from the landscape in Williamsburg woven into a weir (a kind of fence). As a process piece, representative of ecological dynamics, visitors can add their “story” to the piece with extra material used to construct the weirs. With each addition, the piece evolves to reflect the ecology fostered by the site and the community.
