The Plant Vandals project is on the site of the old mill foundation at Mass Audubon’s Graves Farm Wildlife Sanctuary. It involves two phases. For the first half, the site was cleared of dangerous, rusty trash which included rolls of barbed wire and broken glass. Once the site was cleaned of the trash and debris on the surface, Todd created an ephemeral sculpture referencing the history and former use of the site. The piece consisted of found, fallen branches and plant material (no green wood from on-site) crafted into a spiral that would run the length of the 36 foot long foundation and span the 18 foot width (see conceptual illustrations). As an ephemeral piece, it remains in place and is decomposing – adding matter to the soils.
